The UK's number 1 scaffolding ladder

MAXIMUM SAFETY. ALWAYS. THAT’S LFI.

Staying ahead of the competition and imported items that may be cheaper, but far less robust, we have tested TuFF Steel to the most up-to-date revision of EN131.

With users' safety LFI's priority, one requirement of EN131 had to be omitted. LFI has omitted Part 1, Clause 4.2 b2 of the standard that relates to the base width. For a specialist ladder like the TuFF Steel, this clause is impractical and as such we have detailed this on our new product labelling.

Most ladders you'll see in general use today, have a stabiliser bar fitted to meet Part 1, Clause 4.2 b2 of the EN131 standard. There's a calculation relating to a ladder’s minimum base width and its height of 3m or above. This clause could prohibit safe use in the case of the TuFF Steel ladder which is generally used for scaffolding and underground access.

Our new labelling details that the TuFF Steel is a ‘Specialist Ladder’ and that the ‘Ladder must be tied off’.
— ANDY FERRIS, COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR

The TuFF Steel is a great access partner to keep you safe when you're working at height. To ensure that the TuFF Steel is as safe as possible in use, we’ve taken pre-emptive steps to remind the user that this is not a general use item and it falls outside of the scope of the full standard(s). Our new labelling details that the TuFF Steel is a ‘Specialist Ladder' and that the 'Ladder must be tied off’.

Where the ladder is used for other access applications by a private party or an individual's risk-assessed scenario, LFI can confirm that if the ladder is used under someone's safe system of work, including securely attaching it to a structure (ie 'Tied Off) then it will remain compliant as it always has within other access applications including scaffolding and underground access.
