Important Ladder Safety Update - New guidance for employers

FALLS WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT ARE STILL THE MOST COMMON WORKPLACE FATALITY.

These fatalities account for around a quarter of all worker deaths, and 8% of all non-fatal injuries every year. With this in mind, The Ladder Association and Health and Safety Executive have teamed up to produce two new ladder safety guidance documents: the Safe Use of Ladders and Stepladders, and the Code of Practice. These documents aim to progress safety and best practices step by step within the industry.

Ladder Association: Code of Practice

The revised Code of Practice contains more comprehensive guidance on the simple, sensible precautions you should take when using a ladder.

It’s not intended to be a substitute for training, such as that provided by the Ladder Association’s training scheme throughout their network of Approved Training Centres, but it can be used to support training and act as a reference point after training has taken place.

LA455: Safe Use of Ladders and Stepladders

LA455 is the new guidance document jointly produced by the Ladder Association and the HSE to replace the previous HSE INDG455.

This guidance is for employers on the simple, sensible precautions they should take to keep people safe when using portable leaning ladders and stepladders in the workplace. It is also useful for employees and their representatives.
