SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

At LFI (2023) Limited, we are committed to sustainable business practices that reduce our environmental impact, conserve resources, and support the well-being of our employees, customers, and communities. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we will strive for continuous improvement in all areas of our operations.

As of 14th November 2022, we have made a formal commitment with the SME Climate Hub as part of the United Nations Race to Zero campaign to reduce our impact on the environment through sustainability initiatives. This includes a pledge to act by completing the commitment to halve emissions by 2030, achieve net zero by 2050, and report on our progress yearly. Our first formal report is due by November 14th 2023.

The company is also working towards BS EN:14001 Environmental Management to further develop a framework for supporting our organisation and the development of the policies required to achieve our sustainability goals.

Environmental Impact Assessment

To achieve this goal, we have started by bringing together an internal sustainability team to identify and assess our environmental impact. We are prioritising areas where we can make the most significant positive impact and develop a plan to address these issues. We will have also identified Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are important to our business and determine the data we need to collect to drive continuous improvement on improved sustainability initiatives.

Environmental Impact Reduction

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact in the following areas:

Energy and Resource Conservation

  • We will monitor and track energy use and explore ways to reduce energy consumption in our facilities, transportation, and operations

    • KPI: Total energy used (kilowatt-hours) and the energy intensity (energy consumed per unit of output).

  • We will prioritize the use of energy-efficient equipment and lighting and explore the use of renewable energy sources where feasible

    • KPI: Percentage of renewable energy used.

  • We will minimise waste by reusing and recycling materials wherever possible, and by reducing the amount of packaging used in our products

    • KPI: Total waste generated per product produced

    • KPI: Percentage of waste diverted from landfill.

  • We will reduce water usage by monitoring and managing water consumption and wastewater discharge

    • KPI: Total usage of water.

Carbon Emissions Reduction

We will measure and track our carbon emissions and set targets for reducing them over time. This will primarily be reported using the “Greenhouse Gas Protocol” which provides the most widely recognised accounting standards for greenhouse gas emissions and which categorises GHG emissions into three ‘scopes’. These scopes are designated to structure what information to collect and where – both upstream (supply chain) and downstream (customers and end users).

SCOPE 1 SCOPE 2 SCOPE 3
• Fuel combustion
• Company vehicles
• Fugitive emissions
• Purchased electricity, heat and steam • Purchased goods and services
• Business travel
• Employee commuting
• Waste disposal
• Use of sold products
• Transportation and distribution (up - and downstream)
• Investments
• Leased assets and franchises

• KPI: Total GHG emissions (in CO2 equivalent) and emissions intensity (emissions per unit of output)
• KPI: Carbon footprint of our own fleet of lorries and company cars.

  • We will prioritise the use of low-carbon materials and processes and explore opportunities to offset our remaining carbon emissions through carbon credits and other mechanisms

    • KPI: Percentage of low-carbon materials used in production
    • KPI: Total carbon emissions offset through carbon credits and other mechanisms.

Sustainable Procurement (Upstream Assessments)

  • We will work with our suppliers to ensure that the materials and products we use are environmentally sustainable and that they meet our social and ethical standards

    • KPI: Percentage of sustainably sourced materials used in production

    • KPI: Number of suppliers that meet our sustainability criteria

    • KPI: Total GHG emissions (in CO2 equivalent) and emissions intensity (emissions per unit of output).

  • We will prioritise suppliers that share our commitment to sustainability and that have a demonstrated track record of sustainability performance

    • KPI: Percentage of suppliers that have a sustainability policy.

Product life cycle assessment (Downstream Assessments)

  • We will conduct a life cycle assessment (LCA) of our products to identify environmental hotspots and opportunities for improvement

    • KPI: Efficiency of methods to improve product lifespan in the marketplace

    • KPI: End-of-life treatment of sold products (repair, recycling).

Employee Engagement with Sustainability

  • We will involve our employees in our sustainability efforts and provide training and education to ensure that they understand the importance of sustainability and how to support our efforts.

    • KPI: Number of sustainability training hours provided to employees

    • KPI: Employee satisfaction with LFI's sustainability practice.

Monitoring and Reporting

We will regularly monitor and report on our sustainability performance, using the KPIs we have identified. We will use this information to evaluate our progress, identify areas for improvement, and communicate our performance to our stakeholders.

Conclusion

We are committed to sustainability as a core value of our business. By working together to reduce our environmental impact, we will create a more sustainable future for our employees, customers, and communities. This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure that we remain aligned with our sustainability goal.
